Prizes and Awards

Each Division will have their own Overalls and Title winners.

Overall winners in the Superstar Division receive a monetary award if there are five or more entries in a category. (Five All Star Solos, ages 9-10, for example.) If there are less than five, there will be no monetary prize for that category. (This all refers only to monetary prizes for the participants. For charitable donation purposes, EVERY overall winner in every Division wins a $10 donation, including those that might be the only dance in their category.)

Prizes are awarded to the Dance Studio in the form of a Gift Certificate for the following season. Your routine must be completed to be eligible for overall awards, and you MUST perform within or before your award session. We will announce overall First through 10th place winners in each category and age division.

There will also be special judges awards and choreography awards, as well as various awards recognizing choreography, artistry, showmanship, technique and entertainment value.

Title

We will select "Mr. & Miss Power of Dance" Winners in each age group and Division, who will be selected based on a solo along with an essay or paragraph about their charity -- what it means to them, why it was chosen, or whatever they would care to say on the subject. These are not scored or graded in any way, we just need to see that some that some thought and effort were put into it. We will not consider our own opinions of the merits of a dancer's chosen cause. Essays may or may not be shared with the judges. They love to read them, but there are often too many entries for them read during the event, and the essay itself in no way affects the score. Title entrants all win an extra $10 for their cause.

The essay portion definitely makes things a lot more complicated for us, but it certainly underscores our overall philosophy. Minis and Super-Petites should write (or maybe dictate?) 15 words or more. (Pictures are also welcomed instead!) Petites should write at least 30 words. Juniors should write at least 50 words. Tweens, Teens and Seniors at least 75 words. All essays must be emailed to us at least TWO WEEKS prior to the event -- we prefer a photo of each one, saved as a jpg or pdf. Studios or parents can email them directly to kevin@thepowerofdance.net. BUT -- the name of the dancer, studio, and regional MUST be in the subject line of the email! "Jane's essay" does not help me. Dancers must be entered for Title during the registration process, at least TWO weeks before the event. Title may NOT be added AT the event under any circumstances. (Mainly because those circumstance almost always consist of a parent at the event looking at the program, figuring out that there is nobody entered for Tween All Star Title (for example only) and saying "Jane, quick, write something about our charity on this piece of paper." Sorry -- that is NOT in the spirit of what we are trying to accomplish!)
